Redesigning Construction Financial Operations

The Problem
Construction managers were spending hours untangling agreement paperwork and navigating financial flows on a tool not built for mobile.
BuilderX is used daily by construction site managers — foremen, contractors, and procurement leads — to track payments, vendor agreements, and subcontractor invoices. The existing interface was a desktop-first form-heavy system ported to mobile with minimal adaptation. Critical actions were buried and high-density financial inputs had no visual hierarchy.



Disentangling Agreements from Transactions
Agreement screens and transaction screens were visually identical. Users couldn’t tell what they were signing versus what they were approving.
Why This Mattered
Contracts, terms, and conditions require a fundamentally different mental model from payments, invoices, and purchase orders. Treating them identically created costly confusion.
How I Approached It
I separated the two flows at the navigation level. Agreements became a document pathway with signature zones clearly marked; transactions became data-first views with progressive disclosure.

Right Container for High-Density Inputs
Financial inputs — tax lines, cost codes, unit prices — were displayed in cramped row containers that exceeded mobile readability.
I introduced card-based grouping for related line items. Each card showed a category total prominently and collapsed to the summary by default, with detailed line items expanding on tap. The result kept the screen readable while making all data accessible.


Navigation Architecture & Action Hierarchies
The most-used actions were buried three levels deep, while the least-used actions occupied the home screen. I audited action frequency and restructured the navigation to surface the top daily actions as quick-access cards.
